Public Schools District Supervisor of Cluster 8, Sir Oscar R. Duma, Jr. tackled the rudiments of research among school heads and PSDSs during the Year-End Analysis and Evaluation of Project ROSS (Results-Oriented Social Services) in Education at Venus Parkview Hotel, Baguio City, on December 15, 2024.

Duma introduced the Basic Education Research Agenda and outlined the phases of the Research Management Guidelines, including proposal submission, evaluation, implementation, and dissemination.
He stressed the importance of aligning research efforts with systematic protocols to ensure relevance and impact and the role of research in shaping policies and practices through evidence-based insights.

A key highlight was the distinction between Basic Research and Action Research. Basic Research, Duma explained, focuses on building foundational theories and reliable knowledge, while Action Research addresses practical issues and improves educational practices through reflective inquiry.

He encouraged educators to view research problems as opportunities for improvement, highlighting various types of research gaps such as literature, contextual, and methodological gaps.

Duma also discussed the importance of statistical significance in validating research findings. He described it as proof that observed data are not random but stem from specific causes, ensuring that conclusions are meaningful and reliable.

He further explained the roles of independent and dependent variables in research, providing practical examples of how they determine cause-and-effect relationships.

Encouraging educators to embrace research, Duma likened the process to exploring the depths of the sea, noting that fear stems from the unknown. By understanding and applying research principles, participants can uncover insights to address challenges and improve educational outcomes.
