
The Schools Division of Calamba City has commenced consultations with various stakeholders on reverting to the old academic calendar of June to March at the Training Center, 4th floor of the DepEd new building.
In her message, SDS Merthel M. Evardome, CESO V, presented the proposed revisions or amendment to DepEd Order No. 022, s. 2023 entitled Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2023-2024, which are not yet final and executory. She highlighted that โthis strategic shift aims to mitigate the challenges posed by intense heat and prevent the risk of heat-related illnesses.โ
SDS Evardome enumerated the proposed provisions such as the adjusted date of the end of the school year, year-end deliberation of awards, end-of-school-year break, academic quarter, and end-of-school-year rites. Additional provisions of the school calendar to be implemented in the school year 2023-2024 include Centrally Managed Co-Curricular Activities, National Learning Camp, and Catch-up Fridays.
OIC-ASDS Nadine C. Celindro stressed the importance of gathering responses or feedback from various stakeholders in the Division through consultation as โwe discuss the steps for the plan to return to the old school calendar.โ
Representatives from the different groups expressed their full support for the Departmentโs move to revert to the original school calendar.
Present during the Stakeholdersโ Consultative Meeting were SDO officials, representatives from the Local Government Unit, Elementary and Secondary School Headsโ Association, Teachersโ Association, Federated Parents-Teachersโ Association, Private Schoolsโ Association, Non-Teaching Employeesโ Association, and Division Federated Supreme Elementary and Secondary Learner Government.
Consolidated responses and results will be submitted to the Regional Office.
