The 2025 National Schools Press Conference, recently concluded in Ilocos Sur, witnessed Team CALABARZON's outstanding performance in TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting, dominating both Filipino and English categories with impressive wins.

In the Filipino category, Team CALABARZON, composed of talented students from Calamba City Science Integrated School, Tagaytay Science High School, and University of Batangas, has cemented its legacy as back-to-back champions. The team took home multiple awards, including 1st Place – Best Newscast, 1st Place – Best News Script, 1st Place – Best in Technical Application, and 2nd Place – Best in Development Communication. Members from CCSIS, including James Isaac Lazerna took home 3rd place Best Anchor, Angelo Uriel Alger excelled as 1st place Best Scriptwriter and 2nd place Best Director, and Hans Kenji Negrillo claimed 1st place Best Technical Editor. Under the guidance of Coach April Jackie Latigay, the team achieved this remarkable success.

In the English category, Team CALABARZON, composed of talented students from Calamba City Science Integrated School, Tagaytay City Science National High School-SHS, Quezon National High School, Pacita Complex National High School, Emilio Aguinaldo College Cavite, and University of Batangas, also excelled. They took home awards including 1st Place – Best Newscast, 1st Place – Best in Technical Applications, 2nd Place – Best in Development Communication, and 5th Place – Best News Script. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗦𝗰𝗶 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗚𝗛𝗔𝗠𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁

In a remarkable display of innovative prowess, the CalSci team representing Region IV-A CALABARZON, consisting of Raphael P. Cadiente, Rafael Lorenzo L. Ortiz, and Thessa M. Tuazon, clinched the fifth place in the recently concluded National AGHAMazing contest among 17 competitive regions across the country, held at Ilocos Sur Community College.

During the competition, they showcased their exceptional scientific and mathematical thinking skills by developing a research proposal on-the-spot to solve a real-world problem/scenario of local or global importance. The team had three hours to conceptualize and prepare the written description of their proposed solution. After the three-hour proposal development, the members presented their proposal orally for one minute, followed by a five-minute question-and-answer session.

The team was well-prepared under the guidance of their coach, Ms. Marinel A. Degoma, whose training and expertise undoubtedly contributed to their success.

𝗦𝗗𝗢 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

The Schools Division Office of Calamba City, in partnership with Kapayapaan Integrated School, held a solemn and meaningful commemoration of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial on May 19, 2025.

This activity served as a tribute to those who have lost their lives to AIDS and a show of solidarity with individuals living with HIV.

The program featured heartfelt messages, a moving candlelight ceremony, and a symbolic red ribbon formation.

Meanwhile, the participants also recited a Pledge of Commitment to continue promoting HIV awareness, compassion, and non-discrimination.

We thank everyone who took part in this powerful event. May we continue to be a community that remembers, rises, and leads with empathy and action.

The Schools Division Office of Calamba City lauded the 27 finalists of the 2024 Gawad Calambayani in the different award categories for teaching, non-teaching, and teaching-related personnel at Summit Ridge Hotel, Tagaytay City, on May 20, 2025.

In her message, SDS Merthel M. Evardome, CESO V, emphasized that Gawad Calambayani is more than just a ceremony of awarding rings, plaques, and cash incentives, as “this is a moment to reflect on and draw inspiration from the silent heroism embedded in the daily work of our SDO personnel.”

SDS Evardome highlighted the vital role of the PRAISE Committee and its Subcommittee, expressing gratitude for their diligent efforts in reviewing and evaluating the nominations submitted for this year’s awards.

She called on everyone to embody the qualities of a true public servant, such as integrity, dedication, and compassion, not just during awarding ceremonies but throughout their professional lives.

She also encouraged the awardees to aspire for even greater heights by participating in the honor awards given by the Civil Service Commission, affirming that the Division fully supports their journey toward national recognition.

Director IV of the Civil Service Commission Maria Leticia G. Reyna lauded the dedication and resilience of SDO Calamba City’s teaching and non-teaching personnel, recognizing not just their achievements, but the inspiring journey behind each honor.

She provided a historical context for the recognition program, tracing its roots back to Memorandum Circular No. 48, s. 1992, issued by the Civil Service Commission on December 8, 1992.

This initiative was later enhanced in 1999 through MC No. 1, which introduced revised guidelines on the conferment of human resource recognition and awards, eventually evolving into what is now known as PRAISE (Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence) under the PRIME-HRM (Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management).

Director Reyna commended DepEd Calamba for being at the forefront of this initiative. She proudly highlighted that DepEd Calamba is the first Schools Division Office in the province of Laguna to receive the Bronze Award, expressing her hopes that it will also be the first in the province to achieve Silver.

Acknowledging the persistent challenges in the education sector, City Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal emphasized his deep appreciation for the sacrifices and determination shown by teachers, school heads, and education workers across Calamba.

Mayor Rizal paid tribute to the dedication and perseverance of the city’s education personnel, whom he described as the “unsung heroes” behind the successes of Calambeño youth.

The mayor underscored the transformative impact of every research output, innovation, and classroom effort, and highlighted how these contributions fuel the city’s forward momentum.

Looking forward, Mayor Rizal reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to advancing its support for education.

He also rallied all stakeholders to uphold inclusive and equitable education, grounded in compassion and felt impact.

Meanwhile, as a token of appreciation for the exemplary performance of the finalists, the awardees received a plaque of recognition with a medallion, a Ring of Excellence, and cash prizes.

𝗦𝗗𝗢 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗘𝗗𝗣 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

To ensure alignment with the DepEd’s priorities under Secretary Sonny Angara and the Basic Education Development Plan 2030, the Schools Division Office of Calamba City commenced the midterm review of its Division Education Development Plan (DEDP) for Fiscal Year 2022–2028 at View Park Hotel, Tagaytay City on May 5–7, 2025.

In her message, SDS Merthel M. Evardome, CESO V, emphasized the importance of aligning the division’s plans with Angara’s five-point education agenda, which supersedes the MATATAG Curriculum.

She also stressed that the updated DEDP should reflect the priorities and organizational goals outlined in BEDP 2030, including key outcomes, major final outputs, performance indicators, student-classroom ratios, and number of personnel and teachers trained.

SDS Evardome pointed out that while several Programs, Projects, and Activities have already been implemented by the different functional divisions, these initiatives have yet to be reflected in the adjusted DEDP.

“The updated DEDP must be anchored on baseline data and reflective of the actual conditions in our schools,” she remarked. “It is not merely about the number of programs, but their strategic consolidation and the quality of implementation. Similar initiatives should be merged into one comprehensive program that addresses multiple needs.”

SDS Evardome also underscored the need for every PPA to be accompanied by a clear Monitoring and Evaluation plan, a detailed implementation plan, and appropriate monitoring tools. She further urged division personnel to conduct site visits to schools to identify critical areas of concern and ground the planning process in reality.

Planning Officer III Ligaya G. Martir presented the Division’s educational data, highlighting issues and challenges in Access and Enabling Mechanisms such as low net enrolment rate, high school leaver and repetition rates, class shifting, and low completion rate.

Martir also discussed concerns related to teacher demographics including age and years of experience, subject-teacher mismatches, position classifications, and existing planning parameters. Additionally, she outlined the BEDP targets related to improving education quality.

SEPS Dexter M. Palanas discussed the milestones of the Division’s banner program from DREAM to DREAMS, elaborating on its framework. He also presented the indicative targets and status of various priority development areas, namely Access, Equity, Quality, Well-being and Resilience, and Governance.

SDS Evardome outlined specific strategies to address the identified challenges, providing sample PPAs along with potential outputs that may be incorporated into the revised DEDP.

Meanwhile, PDO II Evelyn Relor and EPS II Jose Chua Jr., both from the Policy and Planning Service–Policy Research and Development Division, led the discussion on the evaluation process. They also presented the core processes of the Basic Education Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.

The last part of the session focused on initiating an evaluation, including the requirements, evaluability assessment, evaluator selection, stakeholder engagement, evaluation design and objectives, appropriate methodologies, risk identification and assessment, as well as the financial and human resource considerations needed for effective implementation.
