SDO Calamba City was commended as the Outstanding Research Management Practice Awardee from 2016 to 2018 last March 13, 2019 held at the NEAP CALABARZON, Malvar, Batangas. The award was given to SDO Calamba City ” for their exemplary performance and outstanding practices on research management”. For three consecutive years, SDO Calamba City has been consistently recognized as one of the SDOs to have the most qualified number of researches for Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) . This fund has supported several teachers and even non-teaching personnel in doing their research from the National level down to Schools Division Offices (SDOs) and public elementary and secondary schools. The Policy Research and Development Division Planning Service (PRD-PS)of the Central Office and the Region’s Policy, Planning and Research Division (PPRD) spearhead the implementation of BERF. With this, the Department of Education ” continues to stengthen the culture of research and evidenced-based decision making in the Basic Education sector”.
Most of SDO Calamba City’s researches are classroom- based. They are focused on pedagogy, approaches and methods, to further address concerns and challenges in the teaching and learning process. SDO Calamba City Research Mentors, PSDS Dr. Randy D. Punzalan and SEPS Dexter M. Palanas, work hand in hand to provide technical assistance to teacher – researchers through orientation, critiquing and advising. From the many researches submitted by the Division, most of them have produced several contextualized instructional materials for intervention on Reading in Filipino and English, Mathematics, and Science. These materials are used by the schools where the researchers are teaching. In the near future, these materials will be available Division-wide. At present , it is being monitored and evaluated in order to track its impact in the arena of Basic Education. Research is part of education. It is the means to generate new ideas,principles or theories in order to be the basis for the development of academic and professional concerns.
